Gold Award is the ultimate youth achievement award. Recognised by universities and employers around the world as a serious undertaking that requires a significant commitment from participants over the course of 12 months. The Gold Adventurous Journey requires groups to be self sufficient for a challenging 4 day / 3 night journey. Eight purposeful hours per day mean that groups will be journeying further, for longer, on much more challenging terrain than Bronze and Silver. Gold expeditions take groups into some stunning, remote parts of the world which really test their navigation, campcraft and survival skills. For this reason, almost all Gold participants have already completed the Silver award.

Absolute Adventure can support groups with their training via training materials, delivering in-school training sessions, training weekends and the use of additional staff to focus on skills development during the practice journey. Our staff are very experienced in running Duke of Edinburgh Award Exepditions in the UK and abroad, with staff certified to assess qualifying journeys.

There are more options for Gold award; each with varying levels of challenge. Using our Absolute Bulgaria staff, along with other teams around the world, we offer Gold expeditions in the following countries:

  • Oman
  • Bulgaria
  • Nepal

In Oman and Bulgaria, Gold expeditions can be undertaken on foot (hiking), kayak or mountain bike. Our Gold expeditions in Nepal are hiking only. Regardless of the location of your expedition, you will be fully supported by our team of UAE based staff who will help the group with their preparations and also travel with you. Overseas journeys usually comprise of additional climitisation and preparation days before the expedition begins.

We use a mixture of close and remote supervision techniques to ensure that groups are as independant as safely possible. All expeditions are supported by experienced staff with Wilderness First Aid qualifications, off-road 4x4 vehicle support, manned checkpoints and water points, and GPS group tracking. Staff are in radio contact with each other throughout the journey and carry a satellite phone with emergency beacon in case of emergency.
