Example Itinenary

2 Day Mountain Expedition

Hike Objectives

This will be a beginner level hike that will be mostly student led. The objective of this trip is for students to take ownership for it as they work as a group to solve problems and complete the hike as a team. The students will have an emerging idea of self care in the outdoors and how to work effectively as a team. The hard skills that the students will have a working understanding on are camp site management (camp site selection, tent set up and latrine creation), Leave No Trace ethics and how to pack a hiking bag.

The terrain will be mostly trail with some off route navigation. The trail condition will be suitable for vehicle support throughout the entire trail, however, instructors will observe groups from a distance and only provide assistance if necessary thus allowing students to own the experience.

Gear

Absolute Adventure will provide GPS's, maps and compasses for the students groups. Dependent on talk with school, all other gear should be provided by students and school. However, equipment such as tents, backpacks, water bottles, roll mats, sleeping bags, cooking gear and Camel Backs can be rented from Absolute Adventure stores.

The Route

The trek starts in a scenic area of the Hajar mountain range. As you can see from the elevation graph there is slow ascent from the start that finishes with a summit, and continues with a steeper descent. We finish the expedition at the sea level. On the way we are able to observe the fascinating geology of the area, local flora and fauna and use our orienteering skills to find our way around by looking at distant mountains, villages and other natural formations.
